If you've ever stood at the mirror with an eyelash curler in one hand and mascara in the other, wondering if there's an easier way, you're in good company. Two lash services come up a lot: lash lifts and lash extensions. Both can give you that wide-awake look. They get there in very different ways, though, and the right choice depends on your lashes, your routine and what you love.
Here's an honest, no-pressure look at how they compare, so you can pick what feels like you.
What Is a Lash Lift?
A lash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that curls your natural lashes from the root, giving them a longer, lifted look for about six to eight weeks. Nothing gets added. It's just your own lashes, only better.
It works especially well if your lashes grow straight or point downward, or if you're tired of curling them every morning. At Willow Brows + Esthetics, we customize every lash lift to your natural lash length, growth direction, condition and eye shape, so the result looks natural and not overdone.
You also get a say in the shape:
Lifted: a steeper, longer "L" shape that can make lashes look especially long.
Curled: a softer, rounder "C" shape.
You choose the look you want. Your lash artist takes care of the technical decisions needed to get there safely.
What Are Lash Extensions?
Lash extensions are individual synthetic lashes applied to your natural lashes. Because they add length and fullness, you can go well past what your natural lashes can do, from a soft, wispy look to full-on glam. People who love a dramatic, made-up look often swear by them.
Extensions are applied by a lash artist and usually need regular maintenance appointments to stay full as your natural lashes shed. That's not a downside if you love the look. It's just part of the routine to plan around.
A quick note: Willow doesn't offer lash extensions. We focus on lifting and tinting natural lashes. If extensions sound like your perfect match, a dedicated extension artist is the way to go.
Lash Lift vs. Extensions: A Quick Comparison
The look. A lash lift makes the most of the lashes you already have by lifting, curling and opening up your eyes. Extensions add length and volume beyond your natural lashes.
Upkeep. A lash lift is famously low-maintenance. After the first day, your morning routine is basically a quick brush-through. Extensions usually need ongoing touch-up appointments.
How often. Most lash lifts last six to eight weeks, and most clients come back every six to eight weeks. We require at least six weeks between lifts and only lift again when your lashes look healthy enough.
Feel. With a lift, there's nothing extra on your lashes, so they feel like your own (because they are).
Who it suits. A lift is great if you want polished, natural-looking lashes with almost no daily effort. Extensions are great if you want more length or fullness than your lashes naturally have.
Neither one is "better." They're two different tools for two different looks.
Why Add a Lash Tint?
Lots of people have lighter or almost see-through lash tips, so some of your length goes unseen. A Lash Lift + Tint darkens the full length of each lifted lash for more depth and definition, which is why it's our favorite way to skip mascara and still look wide-eyed.
We use a long-lasting hybrid lash dye that may stay visible for up to six weeks, depending on your lifestyle and habits. If you're naturally blonde or have lighter lashes, a tint on its own is a lovely option too.
Pricing and Timing at Willow

We build in a little extra time so your artist never has to rush. Most clients get so comfortable they fall asleep, so feel free to bring your AirPods and grab a blanket.
Lash Lift Prep and Aftercare
Before your appointment: Come with clean lashes and no eye makeup if you can. Skip waterproof mascara and eyelash curlers in the days before. Bring your glasses or a lens case, because contacts need to come out. Let us know ahead of time about any sensitivities, allergies, recent eye procedures or past lash reactions. If you're concerned about sensitivity, we offer a patch test at least 48 hours before your appointment.
After your lift:
Keep your lashes dry for at least 4 hours.
Avoid steam rooms and saunas for 24 hours.
Wait 24 hours before wearing eye makeup or mascara.
Skip waterproof mascara and eyelash curlers.
Gently brush your lashes each morning and use a lash-conditioning serum daily.
FAQ
Can I get a lash lift if I currently have extensions? Extensions and adhesive must be completely removed first, and we don't recommend removing extensions and lifting in the same appointment. Because lash condition varies after extensions, reach out before booking so we can check that your lashes are ready.
Will a lash lift damage my natural lashes? When it's done correctly on healthy lashes, a lash lift shouldn't damage them. We customize processing for each client, and if your lashes look fragile or overprocessed, we may suggest waiting.
Does a lash lift hurt? It shouldn't. You'll relax with your eyes closed while your artist works. Plenty of clients nap through it.
Can I get a lash lift while pregnant or breastfeeding? We ask that you wait until you're no longer pregnant or breastfeeding. We'd love to welcome you in when the time is right.
Ready for Effortless Lashes?
If you want lashes that look good from the moment you wake up, with no curler and no mascara needed, a lash lift might be your new favorite thing. And if you're still deciding, that's okay too. We're always happy to answer questions.
Want to refresh your brows while you're at it? Pair your lift with brow lamination for a full brow and lash refresh.
